How is the U.S. delivering on the SDGs across racial and ethnic groups? Join us on May 5 from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM Eastern Time for the launch of In the Red: the US Failure to Deliver on a Promise of Racial Equality, to learn about findings from an initial examination of disaggregated SDG data across US states.
About the Project
The newest SDSN USA project measures how US states are delivering sustainability across different racial and ethnic groups. Measurable gaps are found in how states deliver sustainability to different racial groups across a variety of topic areas, including: life expectancy; children in poverty; incarceration rates; pollution; and more. This report uses the framework of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 (SDGs) to assess inequality across 13 of the 17 Goals.
The findings highlight that there are distinct and sometimes large differences in how states deliver the SDGs to white communities and non-white communities. In particular, measures of racial inequality for children are particularly large, and there are numerous critical gaps in availability of racially disaggregated data in US official sources.
During the event, we will share the project findings and methodology and present an interactive data dashboard with SDSN USA network members, partners, and other stakeholders dedicated to equitable measurement and delivery of sustainable development in the United States. Additionally, we will host a panel discussion on the recommendations and implications of this work, and to provide context for the findings. See speaker list and agenda below.
