Carolyn McGrath (she/her) has been an Art Teacher in the Hopewell Valley School District since 1998.  For almost as many years, she has been the staff advisor to student environmental clubs, including the Recycling and Composting Club and the Youth Environmental Society at Hopewell Valley Central High School. Under Carolyn's guidance, students in those organizations have won grants to add filtered water refill stations to the High School and to create a district-wide composting program. Most recently, the Youth Environmental Society was recognized by First Lady Tammy Murphy and Sustainable Jersey for their work on a Climate Action Proposal for Hopewell Valley School District. Carolyn also serves as the Co-Chair of her District Green Team, Climate Action Committee, and Hopewell Valley Green Week. She is a also Board Member of OASIS (Organizing Action on Sustainability In Schools). In 2022, Carolyn worked with Subject to Climate to create art lessons that incorporate the new NJSLS for climate change. Those lessons and many others can be found at the New Jersey Climate Education Hub.She represents IAU in various working groups and expert committees including at the Council of Europe, UNESCO and the UN as member of the High Level Advisory Board to the UNESCO Futures of Education Initiative and Mission 4.7; the UNESCO ESD for 2030 Programme; the UNESCO and Bergen Expert Group on Universities and Sustainability; the Council of Europe (CoE) Ad hoc Working Group on the Local Mission of the University; the CoE Steering Committee for Best Practice Programme in Promoting Academic Integrity; the CoE Ad hoc Working Group on Competences for a Democratic Culture; the Advisory Board of UVED, OneHE and Sulitest; the Advisory Board of the Observatory of Academic Freedom (GOAF - Soros Foundation).
